An industrial build to create a retail unit
Client: FA Construction
Location: Elgin, Moray, Scotland
Project: Industrial building
This build project was an industrial building which was intended for use as a builder’s merchant. The main frame of the building was made from steel uprights with Durisol ICF as the infill material.
The client chose Durisol for this project as they required a fast build, and with the building close to the boundary edge also needed fire resistance.
The client hadn’t built with Durisol before but could see the benefits and thought it would be a good project to use as a trial.
Even with the additional reinforcements requested by the engineer, the Durisol build (almost 9,000 units in total) was completed in just six weeks.
Due to the accurate sizing of the units, there was little wastage, and the builders found that the blocks stood up very well to manual handling with few breakages.
The finished building is now open as a builder’s merchants. The internal Durisol walls have been left without finishes to showcase the blocks. The exterior was part rendered, and part covered in galvanised sheeting.
“This project was our first time using Durisol, and we’d certainly use it again. It was a straightforward and fast build, with no problems at all.”
