A purpose built 86-bed care home
Client: M. Singh Building Contractors Ltd
Location: North Featherston
Project: New build care home
This was a new build project – a purpose built 86-bed care home which included 11 self-contained apartments. It has the look and feel of individual apartment living with the security of on-site staff to cater and care for resident’s needs.
The D365 block was selected for ease of build, speed of delivery and strength of structure.
Due to the intended use of the building the semi-underground structure needed to be fire safe and meet The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 for multiple occupation buildings. It also needed to meet the BS 8102:2009 Code of practice for protection of below ground structures against water from the ground.
Durisol blocks meet both these requirements.
A single skin of Durisol D365 units was used with mineral wool insulation, an external render and brick finish and an internal wet plaster finish. This gives the care home a wall U-value of 0.19m2K and enables it to benefit from reduced energy consumption. The care home maintains cosy well heated rooms in the winter months and cool temperatures during the summer.
The internal wall blocks offer great sound reduction qualities, which improves the quality of life for the care home residents.
We were extremely pleased with the ease of using the Durisol blocks and how the build progressed. The response we’ve had from our residents has been incredible and we’re already receiving enquiries from potential new residents.
