We’re delighted to announce that Durisol has been recognised as an award-winning ICF, taking home the award for “Best ICF Home” in the 2019 Build It Awards!
The Build It Awards celebrate the self-build industry’s most innovative products and outstanding suppliers, alongside the best self-build and renovation projects in the country.
Durisol was in a shortlist of five having beat hundreds of other entries to make it through to the final. All the submissions were judged by a panel of industry experts and the winners were announced at a gala dinner last Friday.
The award-winning Best ICF Home is the Blue House, a stunning self-build project that featured in Grand Designs: The Street earlier this year. The owners, Terry and Olwen, chose Durisol as the build material for their forever home as they wanted a simple construction method that they could manage themselves.
The benefits of using Durisol for this particular self-build were many, including:
- Simple to cut on-site, Terry was able to manipulate the ICF units to accommodate the irregular windows, openings and raked roof in the design.
- The positioning of the insulation primarily on the exterior of the concrete mass created a complete thermal envelope with no thermal bridges which contributed significantly to the EPC A rating of the completed house.
- The concrete for the first-floor LEWIS DECK flooring system could be poured at the same time as the concrete for the Durisol wall, creating one solid monolithic structure.
- The rough surface of the Durisol wall gave a perfect key for the adhesive to attach the white quartz tiles for the exterior cladding.
It took just 14 months to complete their new home house. At the end of the process, not only did the owners have a beautiful home but the satisfaction that they’d built it themselves.
